Vehicle 112 Merry Christmas to me

Merry Christmas to me.

Picked up this 1953 Bel Air along with an enclosed trailer full of parts to put it back together with. (Bought the trailer too, lol)

Ready to get started. Hope to get some done on it this weekend.

First thing I needed to do was to remove these lovely homemade engine mounts.

and install some nicer ones that were actually included with the car

Flipped the ones I cut off over, and they were made from old car door hinges... lol

Test fit the engine / transmission that came with the car

after purging the pink, lol

Not too much progress. Started pulling the new wire harness.
I also could not find a center tooth for the grille, so I used a 1957 center bar in the grille instead. I like it better.
(whole grille is just resting on the splash plan in both photos as a mock up)

Slowly getting somewhere on this one. Next week will be 3 months with it.

Just trying to get it going as quick and cheap as I can.

Fixed the hole in the trunk floor that someone cut for a fuel cell hump, by cutting a bigger hole!

Almost done in the front here...

I am thinking this thing was built in the 80s.... lol
Used these as patterns to cut out some ABS that I can cover in something a bit better

Thanks man. Not doing a restore, just trying to get it driving as cheap as I can, but also trying to make what is existing half way decent

I cleaned up the floor, and put down some rust-oleum (again, cheap, but works well)

I also went to a show this weekend and found a steering wheel to replace the 80s Grant that was in it. Saw the color from across the swap meet isle. Not exact, but pretty dang close!

Today she moved under her own power for the first time in a LONG time!!
I have new wheels and tires ordered, got now mounting kit for all the trim. Just need to make her all one color, do up the interior, and add an exhaust

Man, that's going to be pimp when you get it all one color with trim on it. What color are you thinking?

I have no clue on color... I want to just rattle can it satin black, but everyone is telling me not to, to go with a color. With the dash color I can only go something similar, white, silver, or black.... I don't plan to keep the car, and don't really want to get into any bodywork, lol...

Today I did give her some new shoes though... Front end needs to come down a bit, but Mustang II springs are a common swap for dropping these, so a lot of choices there.

Well, this one went back to the guy I bought it from.

I kept the new wheels for the GTO, and now will concentrate on the Pinto.

Buddy I got it from is in love with the car, just didn't have time for it. Once it was a running / driving car he was missing it, and I was never going to keep it, so it made financial sense to let it go at the point it was at before I put much more money into it.
I would rather focus on the Pinto, and pick away at a few small details on the GTO.. I have been trying to thin the herd. I keep saying if I could focus on ONE project instead of always having 3, I could have 1 real nice car, lol... GTO is very close to that now
