True Street Safety Rules Revision

After hearing from various racers and promoters, Tony and I decided to make the Fire Systems and Engine Diapers "Highly Recommended" for 2013. We are also going to drop the 25.5 for 2014. Personally, I can only hope that everyone will install these items for their own safety. Will ( Piedmont True Street 275's) and Ryan ( Dunn-Benson RS275 ) will also be adjusting their rules accordingly. If anyone has any questions, please do not hesitate to call or text me at 704-302-7991 after 5pm nightly. Thanks, Junior Hampton

I am glad that these are not going to be mandatory because i know it would hurt the car count when the 25.5 cage deal started

Absolutely! I have most of this stuff bought up now, but the 25.5 cage was a deal breaker for some people.

Sweet! I will have the fire system soon, I understand its importance. But I am glad I don't have to miss the first Piedmont race because of it

I also have set aside funds for a fire system and diaper. The 25.5 was a huge deal breaker for me though.

The 25-5 was going to be the deal breaker for me as well.

I guess I understand the 25-5 being a issue for some and the fire system also. Also don't have huge issue as it for the most part only puts those who choose not to have then in harm's way.

The diaper on the other hand for around 200.00 not only protects the driver but also who they are racing and every person in the stands.

Guess I just value myself and my friends more than others. I also try and do every thing I can to make sure everyone comes home to there friends and family.

After I thought about it, the fire system and diaper were something I felt needed to be done so that the other racers wouldn't be inconvenienced because my car oils the track down or busts the pan on a wheel stand.

25.5 I just don't have the funds for no matter how I look at it or which scenario I take involving the added bars I'd need.

If I can ask a question it's this, would a 10 point cage with a funny car cage addition be the answer ? As I to would struggle with having to do the 25.5 cage but with saying that its like I said if you are going to run this class then you have to follow the rules that would be in place. I understand the importance of some stuff but the 25.5 seems alittle over kill at only 130 mph, x and outlaw I can see it but there Again I know anything can happen so

We are going with the 8.50 Certification. The Funny Car cage addition would be great. Just depends on the how the rest of the cage is installed and if it's a certified cage to begin with. Watched a car this past weekend going Mid 6's with not one single bar in it. Yes , it was a street car. But it was proof for me of how well the LOCAL TRACK TECH works around here.

Junior, just looked at PTRA's website and are these how these are going to be done next year?

*SAFETY EQUIPMENT
Current safety harness( 3 years) required
Roll Cage must be 8.50 SFI certified. Please note that due to the ET’s the cars are approaching, we will be going to SFI 25.5 cages for 2014.
Engine Diaper highly recommended on all entries. (Mandatory in 2015.)
On board Fire System highly recommended on all entries. (Mandatory in 2014.)

John, as of right now,the 25-5 will be revisited towards the end of the year. This will depend on the ET range the class has evolved to. Tony thinks we need to allow time for everyone to get their safety stuff in order. Personally, I think most of it is a NO BRAINER. I really would like to see everyone with a Fire System and Engine Diaper. But them again, not everyone is as safety concious as I am. I like going home to my family at the end of the night. Plus, if I wrecked my car because of an " Oil under the Tires" ordeal, I would probably be done racing.

The PTRA True Street record is 135 mph, why is a 25.5 cage needed?

Right now it is not required. We are looking at the Safety of our racers. Jason Rigney has the record at a 5.16.Matt Lawrence has the MPH record at 135.74 Had a few guys predicting their combos will run 5.10's easily. The IHRA says 5.00 or quicker are required to have a 25.5 cage. We were anticipating the class evolving into a 5.0 class by year end. We are not there yet, but it is something we have to look at as an organization. I prefer to send all our racers back home every night after an event. We always put the Safety of THE RACER first !! If you have any questions about the PTRA True Street Rules, please feel free to give me a call at 704-302-7991 after 5:00pm daily. Thanks, Junior Hampton
