Thank ya sir.

Here's outside video of my first run. I really screwed up and was blowing past a slalom on the back side of the course. I was thinking it was pretty sketchy having a straightaway, was getting into third gear which was 60+mph.. I got a little more aggressive during my "heat" but only had 5 laps and couldn't really get anything done.

Talking

Preciate it!

Guys, it's finally happened! My 15 yr old daughter asked to learn how to drive the chevelle!!!

I immediately dropped everything I was doing and we were gone. Headed down to a nearly shut down, quiet mall in Reidsville. She had a couple stalls, then had to work her way through cam surge in 1st gear. Hopefully my neck and clutch springs survived that. Thought the stuff swinging on the rear view was going to crack the windshield.

Here she's texting her friends to tell them what they can have if she dies, this was after the first cam surge event. Lol, she ended up battling through it and got into second.

2020-09-21_08-44-43 by Jeff Bowne, on Flickr

Got her courage screwed up enough to take it down a side road, then she was done. I hopped back in and started home. She'd watched me drive before but now she knew what to look for and I saw her gears turning as we were leaving town. As soon as we cleared the city limits she wanted another try. Switched seats and she drove 10 miles back to the house. I had to man the shifter just to coax her along, but there's good things coming. I'm already seeing her tripping the lights at the big end.

Looking at this face you could almost imagine hearing her balls clanging when she walked after getting out of the car. She took the rodeo and won, I'm a proud papa.

0920201938 by Jeff Bowne, on Flickr

Also had the car cleaned up for a car show that was local, also received a sticker from the get out and drive podcast. Had to grab some groceries, stopped by the park and got a video for them to hopefully help get the word out of their October 4th get out and drive day.

Made it out to Piedmont last night for "street style" track surface test and tune. They avoid saying no prep to keep the Oklahoma boys at home.

Went straight to the staging lanes when I arrived and ran the fastest pass of the night, even took out my 2.xx 60' curse. That was my best ET and 60' so far. Couldn't duplicate it the rest of the night.

2020-09-24_02-31-12

I need to invest in better tires, once I can get off the line I know the time slips will look a lot better, but then that dominos into better axles to keep from walking/tearing a rear quarter off the car.

This is basically how my runs looked. No one ran beside me, threw me off, had pre-staged and waited. As soon as I tripped stage they ran the lights and I rushed to cut the light like an idiot. 8.331 @ 88.01

Thank you, it's not spectacular, but am showing gains, I'll focus on that. Once I can get traction it would be pretty sweet to try and possibly crack a high 7 off.

Although I am adding weight.. Finally getting around to interior, it's time. Just d/a'd the roof to knock off rust scale/remnants of original tar paper insulation. Found wrinkles/bondo in driver's rear corner.. fml

slathered on some rustoleum I had laying around to hopefully seal it and keep it from rusting

then went all out with some fatmat to try and quiet it down a little inside. Not going full show car, just doing what I can with what I got.

Washed, then acid cleaned the sill plates. They're pitted, scratched, rusted out, and beat to hell, but when you're good at polishing turds, why the hell not?

Prepping the floor for carpet, plugged all the holes, seam sealed my welds, and threw down fatmat wherever I heard pinging when striking the metal with screwdriver handle.

Headliner is getting installed Tuesday, have carpet, rear door panels, arm rests, etc in the garage waiting.

To combat all the new weight I wanted to try and find a freer flowing muffler. Found these hooker VR304 mufflers on ebay, scratch and dent from Holley for $49.95/ea shipped to my door. Hopefully they'll let it breath a little more on the top end.

Only downside is these little bastards might be a little too loud. Hopefully will find out sometime today/tonight, just have to rotate my tires then it's out of jackstand jail.

You're going to have a whole new experience driving that car now man! There's nothing like some sound deadener and carpet to help quiet down the interior. It works wonders! Keep us posted on how those mufflers sound.

nice work! The door sills cleaned up nicely.

I would also add the deadener to the doors.

We did the entire cab of the wife's 454SS a few years ago, doors, floors, back wall and roof. The doors close with a nice thunk now! The stereo sounds better and the road/engine noise is lessened. It's by no means quite inside but the tones changed and it doesn't beat you up on long trips.

Those mufflers look like they will flow very nicely!

the insides look similar to the Dynomax ultraflo mufflers. they have no drone and a nice muscle car sound.

Thanks guys, got it off the jackstands yesterday right in time for rain. I did fire it up and damn, think we got some good things on the way boys! It's unsettlingly quiet at idle, like a nice dressed up southern belle hiding a machete in her umbrella. Will probably change as the mufflers carbon up, but when you blip the throttle.. It cracks open like a thunder clap. I don't know how else to explain it.. If you've seen transformers and remember the mustang cop car, that's what it reminds me of. I cannot wait for the roads to dry just a hair so I can take it out and see what it's like.

As I jacked up the rear to take it off the stands I noticed pass muffler is cockeyed. I was concentrating on the tailpipes and couldn't see the mufflers from the rear with the axle hanging down. Letting it ride for now.

F it, just jammed the 2 short videos I made yesterday together, here ya go:

Sounds pretty good man. When it revs it sort of has that "glass pack" sound, but I would imagine that will change when it's under load.

Got to take the car out yesterday after Zeta came through and the roads dried. Ya'll weren't wrong, it is a completely different experience. I used to drive the car for the mufflers before, hit certain shift points to avoid drone/clap/rattles. Now it just wants to go, floorboards don't vibrate, and god is it just that much more fun to cruise! Don't have to shout to carry on a conversation, no squeaks, rattles, or vibrating parts inside the car. If you remember maximum overdrive, it sounds like the joker truck, seriously need to get an outside video up soon!

Lol, exactly!! It almost has a trumpet tone to it, mufflers are carboning up, it's getting better. Daughter is game to get some outside videos, just have to get a decent setting and get it done.

Man, this thing is just getting better and better!! Mufflers are sounding kick ass, sound deadener is doing it's job, car is a freaking delight to drive around!!

Cherry on top, headliner installed!!! Going to be working at getting door panel hardware installed, carpet, trunk divider, etc. Didn't think I could fall harder for this ol girl.

Those Hooker mufflers are great..... for sound.
I have run 2 sets on my Pontiac G8 in the "Maxflow" version.
The problem is that the internal welds are junk and eventually you are going to get a rattle. My 2nd set has developed a rattle in less than 3,000 miles.
But the sound is great... nice and quiet at idle but has authority at wide open throttle.

Good thing they are cheap, I'll just have to keep buying more. LOL

Thanks for the heads up I was wondering about them, looks like they're just spot welded in? You can see the tacks in the pic I got of the internals.

I was going through videos trying to figure out how my car would sound before I purchased these and ran across this video: https://youtu.be/Ygob5FpCpUY

I was hoping it was an isolated but sounds like it isn't. I will most likely follow his lead and cut the inlet/outlet down and mig it back together. Would hate to go back to those summit turbos after my car sounding this bad ass and running so well. Have had to put more fuel in the top end, damn thing was leaning out! Went from 75% duty cycle to 78% and may need just a hair more, have to do a little more datalogging.

Had a little time this weekend to mess in the garage. Got tired of tripping over boxes so I started putting parts on the car.

Purchased some butyl tape from Second Skin (Amazon) and used it to adhere the water shields to the inner doors. The tape I bought was thick so I hacked it lengthwise to reduce it's bulk, then stretched/twisted it between my fingers to further reduce it down while applying to the shields. I'd first mocked the shield up on the door and drew the tape path with a sharpie. After install the tape was still thick so I used rollers I'd gotten to install the sound deadener to flatten everything.

After I'd gotten the other door done I'd realized I'd not put sound deadener on the doors.. Just let it go.

The PUI door panels are ok. Left some things to be desired, like knocking out all the punches in the cardboard for the cranks and panel fasteners. Had to trim some of the vinyl and reglue it to access the holes for the panel fasteners. Just small stuff, but it adds up. Can't find driver's rear armrest so looks like I'll be shelling out more money for new ashtrays. Old ones wouldn't look good against all this new chrome anyway. Door panels that came with the car are black (Not original) but had a chrome strip that went along the bottom line of the door panel and the lower portion was covered with carpet. I only have 3 chrome strips, so just going to ride without them for now.

And last but not least, I never thought I could make the back seat look any worse than it already was. Original seat, originally light fawn, someone dyed black. Now it's surrounded by new headliner and door panels, soon to be new carpet too. It's going to stick out very badly..

It's definitely coming together now man. All these little things, like the sound deadening, carpet and plastic covers under the door panels - all together will make the experience of your ride so much more enjoyable! Nice work man.
