What's the cost to rent the rock for a half or whole day? You can pm me if you don't want to post it.

don't have any idea about the cost, but would you think about offsetting it with a handful of others?

We would not be drag racing so I don't think most people would be interested.

It would be a private 1/2 mile land speed test day. Most people would not be interested bc there would be no track prep, we all push start and no 1/4 time, we dont care what it runs down low.

I'm interested. Is their strip long enough for that, though?

What about nearby small public airports?

I've seen IHRA cars go 330 MPH in the 1/4 there and get stopped, I don't see why a land speed car couldn't get stopped if they're only running 1/2 mile.

The full length is right at 1 mile. There are about 10 guys in nc that go to ohio to race we are just trying to shake everything down before driving 500 miles away. Also because of the speed I'm sure for insurance reasons no cage no go.

I would say there is not enough room to go 1/2 mile and get stopped. The 300mph dragsters have parachutes to start stopping after 1/4. Best bet I would say would be to rent an airstrip.

We have chutes and stop in 3/4 of a mile after a mile of track. There is another 1/4 of a mile of track past the last turn out at Rockingham they used to land planes there. There is plenty of room. Its way longer then anyone that drag races have ever used.

I was just thinking every serious standing mile racer I've ever seen had a chute and the Rock is long as eff. I have a buddy who's dad used to fly his plane up there for races too.

i would imagine they would base it on sanctioning body rules by speed for insurance. Have to wait and see what they come back with. Rockingham is approx 1mile long, theres a ton of room.

540 is too bumpy by the way, already thought of that...
Runways are a nightmare to get onto. FAA red tape would blow your mind.

Anyone ever check to see if the old Sanford Airport is available? They do solo there.

One thing to consider is that it may be 1 mile long, but how is it past the 1/4 mile or even the turn-off?
Can't remember the last time they actually used that much track or spent the time landing planes.
Might want to make sure there aren't pine trees down back.
Good luck with the run.

We went to the rock this morning and met with the track officials. It's a perfect facility. Will will be running an event of some kind and will be open to everyone with a limit to the entry amount and the type of vehicle. Waiting to find out if there insurance will cover the event. More to come very very soon.

I have looked into sanford. Its only 4300' long, that only leaves 1600' to stop, thats a little short if your chute opens late at 180mph...

Sanford is not doing rentals this year.
