The official 408w turbo "streetcar" build thread( ITS ALIVE )

I don't have any pics yet but as many of you know I had a turbo 306 in my coupe that ran pretty good till I hurt it a month ago at nam. Well I figure a bigger motor was in order. So far I have ordered a bunch of parts for the short block which will consist of forged crank, h beam rods with arp 2000 bolts, je dish pistonsand arp main studs and head bolts. The plan as of now is to port my old afr185 cnc heads myself a little and use my old HR cam with 1.7 rockers. The turbo is still up in the air, either an s475 or s480 single or 2 cheap t70's. I like the idea of duel exhaust with the twins and no fighting the 5" downpipe. More updates to come.

Just got a killer deal on a s475 so it looks like a big single. 5" exhaust ftw. Dealers say this turbo should be good for 950hp on a 408. I don't plan on pushing it that hard but I will have everything it takes if need be. I'll be happy with 800 or so on pump gas.Everyone say a prayer for my c4.

are you using a 2 bolt main 351?

Guessing you are using the 302 heads?

I've been reading and trying to figure out what I want to do next with the motor when it goes. after market 302 block or get a 351..Just nervous about using 302 parts in a 351..

Kinda of assume 302 parts in a 351 = 302 performance

Go ahead and prepare to put a Glide in it after you get it running.

Technically it was 351 parts on a 302 already, if my heads don"t sell I'm gonna use them. If they do I've got a line on some ported victor jr's. It will be alot stronger than the 302 either way.

Nice. I'm looking forward to this build. Wish I had the chance to see the car run with the 306 in it.

Got my intake and distributor in last week. Started porting my heads last night and cleaning up the ports on my intake with a sandpaper roll last night. Will post pics of work tonight. My turbo and motor parts should be here next week, then off to the machine shop with the block. Hoping to have it running by the end of may or so. I ordered my crank and rods from the mustang depot, does anyone around here have any experience with their stuff?

Super Slow SS has disabled reputation
I ordered pistons from them a while back for someone else car. I didn't have any problem with them, came as described, well packed, don't really remember how long shipping took but if it was an unusually long time I think I would have remembered.
