Question Question on Mercedes E350 oil leak

So my sister has one of these E350 cars (6 cylinder) and has had an oil leak.
She had her mechanic check it and claim it is both valve cover gaskets leaking.
He wants to charge her $1,176 to change both gaskets and install new spark plugs.

I have never worked on these cars and don't know if this is common or not.
What is a typical problem with valve cover gaskets and are there any recalls/warranty items that could be used?
Car has about 60K miles on it.

Thanks!
Ryan

NCHorseplay is a good little Junkie
Wow I always heard labor on Mercedes was high but that is just rediculous. I just looked it up and you are talking 150-200 for parts. That is $1k in labor. Woah!!!

LS-Voodoo is actually making some sense.LS-Voodoo is actually making some sense.
on these modles the covers are actully 2 pieces, a top and bottom set and the plugs there are 12 of them (2per cylinder) and they are platnium plugs usally not due till 100K. If its a missfire its usally a coil or a plug connector(mercedes puts the resistor in it) and well replace the plugs on that cyl just to rule out that knockin out the coil or connector. Give us a call and talk to Jason our service manager (919-872-7771) I dont deal with pricing and couldnt guess what it would run. Shop is D&E Quality service we work manily with Mercedes cars, were in Raleigh hope we can help ya out
