lookin for a 4 cylinder 5/6spd rwd car

Lookin for a new daily driver and want a 4 cylinder 5/6spd rwd car. Have looked at S2000s because of the one in the multimedia thread, hah. Cant find any local. Found a nice older bmw but, want to see what you guys can come up with. Budget, I'd like to stay at or under 10k. Miles arent really an issue because I know they will be older cars.

Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks

My wife drives a 2000 S2000, and it has been a very good car to us.

Nice, not too old at all. I've actually had my eye on an 83 BMW 320i. I will be looking for a Conquest today.
Man, I have not read one bad review about an S2000. I have spoken with several original owners and a bunch of second/third owners with over 100k miles and they dont have anything bad to say either.
They are great cars and that would be my end goal to find one but, thats why I started this thread to get other ideas if it doesnt work.

Miatas are nice to. I actually havent thought of them. I'll check them out as well. You're right, they are noto as expensive as S2000s.

I liked my s2000 a lot. Sold it to get my wrangler though. Good car and decent gas mileage could use more power though but the curved roads in the mtns were a blast in it

Stay away from an RX8. While they do handle great and are fun to drive. Maintenance and reliability is horrible on them. They flood easy, make less than 180hp, and only get 14/16mpg.

I think an S2000 would be my best bet.

Not a 350Z, but our grocery getter is a G35 and it's fine to drive. I'm sure the Z would be more fun.

That S2000s been sold. I checked over the weekend.

i've driven both (S2K and 350z) at some point and neither one was a bad drive. Kind of a toss up on what you want....

Thanks again for the links yrtneg. Thats the thing, I'm not sure what I want. If I find the right deal that will be the deciding factor.

Found this one, anyone ever deal with this dealer?

I have also owned a s2000. A little under powered and performance upgrades are expensive. But out of all 26 vehicles I've owned its the 1 I enjoyed driving the most.

I've also owned a s13 240 hatch. Fun car but not in same league as s2000.

I say it every time i see a s2000 thread... I regret selling mine and want another. Maybe look into miatas.

Its funny, I have not heard many if any negative things about S2000s. Besides them being a little on the pricey side, everyone likes them.

I've been looking at Miatas as well. I like the newer models. I need to do a little more research on them. They seem to be popular in the aftermarket world.

They make a MazdaSpeed Miata too that comes with a turbo, they are probably a little pricey for a Miata, I haven't really looked..

Have you looked at a Subaru? They aren't RWD technically, but they are a longitudinal layout drivetrain.. they do hurt a little bit in mileage compare to some 4 Cyl cars (I get 21 city/26 highway), but they have a little bit different sound than most 4 bangers, they do have the AWD bonus, they can be had cheap and lightly modded cheap, and the WRX and STI are both decent cars out of the box, with the STI obviously having the advantage, if nothing else just for the 6 speed, 2.5L, and bigger turbo, but they are significantly more expensive.

Another bonus is they can come as a "truck" in the Baja.. those are all turbo'ed, no NA version that I've ever seen or heard of. They were only made for a couple years but they aren't terribly hard to find.

You haven't talked to enough people then. Trust me, the car is fun to drive, but could really use about 50 more HP in my opinion, but mods cost a lot for the car and don't provide a lot of gains. I would still have the car, but we decided to get something that we could drive on the trails more.

If I were to get a Miata, I'd stick with an NA model. Not ecause I dont want more power, they seem to be popular with LSX conversions. I have an aluminum 5.3 that I'm in the process of gathering parts for. The Miata would be a great patient for this surgery, hah. Not like it would happen any time soon but that has been a thought with buying a Miata.
I have thought about Subarus, had an 05 Impreza RS. Great car. I'd like a WRX or STi but that would force me to run premium fuel.

I hear yah, after spending some time going through some forums, I did get that reaction from others. While it is a nice car and maybe I'll get one later on but right now they are a little too pricey. May go with a Miata instead. Still up in the air and still looking around.

That's because you're looking at the wrong mods. A mid-pipe and a vtec controller will pick up 40 whp peak, and waaaaay more than that under the curve. That should be plenty of power for a street car, then add shocks, sway bars, and good tires and enjoy it.

I personally prefer Miatas to S2000s. Don't get me wrong, the Honda is an amazing car, but it's the only thing I've ever autocrossed that made me call our 06 autocross Miata torquey. You're probably not going to find a nice 06+ Miata for 10k. You can get an excellent 01-05 though. That body style was 99-05 but they changed the headlights, front bumper, and a little bit of interior stuff as well as a .5 bump in compression and the addition of the VVTi in '01. That's where I would be looking. I DD'd my supercharged 02 for 3 years. Incredible little car.

There aren't many RWD import options: RX7/8, BMW, IS300, Supra, Z car, or 240sx. The Miata or the 240 will get the best gas mileage, but the Miata is premium because of the compression.

Wait a few months...Genesis? I'm biased, and I bought new, but it's fantastic for the price. I'm seeing used 2010s in the 14 range from time to time, and the 2013 comes out soon.
