Nitrous on a stock lt1

I have a 95 Z28 auto, and want to know if the stock pistons, rods, and such would hold up with a 75-100 shot? Thought about buying a compucar dry kit, but have turned into a bit of a skeptic regarding nitrous in general after watching youtube for about 30 minutes. I can't afford to spend a ton of money in a turbo or supercharger. My best time in the 1/8 stock is a 9.22 . Also thought about going with a gear change from the 2.73's to a 3.73 . Any suggestions on a cost effective nitrous alternative, or would nitrous be the best bang for the buck? And I don't mean "bang" literally lol.

try a wet shot. It is safer than a dry shot, but a the same rate its still nitrous. A dry shot is way to volatile especially with out a tune. Wet 75, U should be fine.

Well almost everybody you talk to will tell you do it haha, but I've got an NX kit and still haven't put it on my car..

I really haven't had any experience personally with nitrous so I'll let other people tell you what they know. But I have heard that if you do it right, you won't have problems, its when you get greedy thats when you start blowing stuff up.

Basically get window switch, a colder plug and retard the timing some and you shouldn't have problems, thats about the "safest" way to run nitrous.

Good luck and let me know how it turns out, you might motivate me to throw my kit on haha.

Luck isn't one of my strong points...lol. But if I do decide to do it, I will definately let you know how it turns out.

Gotcha.... The wet shot has a solonoid for added fuel right? Is it a requirement to upgrade fuel pump or should the stock one be good enough for a small shot like a 75? I'm a nitrous newbie (hence the stupid questions).

I had an lt1 so I can give you actual first hand experience.. My motor was stock from throttle body to oil pan. I had bolt ons, 3.73's a 2800 stall and we used a combo of pills that netted it about 125 whp... I wanna say a 150 nitrous jet with a 175 fuel jet.. it was an nx kit and I beat the ever living shit out of it.. sprayed probably a bottle a week or more sometimes with a 15lb bottle and she never skipped a beat. It's all in the tune. It went 7.55's on 17's with shittos.

Nitrous will be just fine on your car or any other car for that matter as long as you don't get greedy, and have a safe tune. Dont' know why everybody is so scared of it.

EDIT: I used a mallory 685 box (the best for lt1's) which allowed me to retard timing upon activation of the nitrous and had an adjustable window switch.

It will take a 150 on a stock motor no problem as long as you make sure its getting plenty of fuel and ignition is right. Tune it on the dyno and squirt the sh#@ out of that b#@ch

Cool, I'll keep that in mind too. Would I need to use 100+ octane or would 93 be good enough?

My shit from a few years back. Car sounded like shit but...

Went 7.56@88mph and 12.0@109 with consistent 1.56 60 ft's. The only mods I had were Yank 3600 stall, 3.73's, and a 75 wet nx kit with a pirrahna nozzle. Those Bogarts up front helped alot too on the short times and were good for wheels pullin action. I could have used a window switch though...(blew out the donkey dong on a backfire, lol). So after it burnt the maf wires off I needed another maf to get home. Luckily my good buddy LS1Bob still had his old LS1 maf in the trashcan back at his shop in Kinston. We put it in the car after it had been covered in oil dry for a week and she ran fine on the way home. I never retarded my timing but I did run some TR7 plugs.

As you can see, she did not have that LSWON top end but she'd get it done in the 1/8th.

P.S. 1.56 60fts will catch you off guard if you ain't used to them.

you'll be just fine with a 75-90 dry shot, like said just make sure you got plenty of fuel, wouldn't hurt to throw a 255 pump in the tank.. I've had maybe 15 bottles through my stock 4.6 with the compucar bottle in a bag dry 90 shot untuned and its still runnin just fine, went from 234 rwhp to 338rwhp off a 90 pill and ran consistent 7.61's @ 95 with a slipping clutch, 1.8 60 ft's FTL.

Got the kit, just have to hook it up. I do have one question. It's a dry kit that goes before the maf, and I know you have to insert the nozzle tube about 6" ahead of it but. The little metal tube is about 4 inches long. Do I get the end of that metal tube 6" from the maf, or just the hole for the metal tube? in other words if I drill a hole in my intake tube 6" from the maf and insert the nozzle, the opening in the nozzle will only be about 2" from the maf.

Here is my experience and my thoughts. I went from 125 to 200shot on a built 383. ran many passes with nos made 4 passess in one day with 200 shot. Like some of these guys say. It is okay as long as everything is done right and tuned right and the timing is retarded and you have a window switch.
