7.30's = 11.40's. To shave five seconds off the ET would be quite the accomplishment!

Good luck with it.

It's done plenty with the Gen2 and later stuff, just not with older stuff unless you're running good gas.

Just wondering how you're avoiding detonation with 12:1 compression and pump gas with a gen1 sbc, particularly with iron heads. Is there some secret to it?

...I have to agree with with T6Rocket - 7.30s should be 11.40s pretty easy ...mine went 11.50s at only 112mph (had some breaking up issues at high rpm) on 7.3X@94 with 60' in the 1.70 range

I really dig this build!! Good luck, keep us updated.

Quench, total timing no advance, valve timing my DCR will be about 9.5 I think? I need to do some math to be honest. I CC'd the heads today and even after shaving .008 they are 67cc I was expecting 62cc so I'm probrably closer to 11.6 my old motor was 12.14:1 ran great on 93

The cylinder can't start to build compression until the intake valve is closed. That's called dynamic compression ratio. You're talking about static compression ratio when you say "12 to 1."

The static compression ratio is relevant, but not nearly as relevant as the dynamic when it comes to what the motor will and won't tolerate as far as octane is concerned. I've always been told that 9.5:1 dynamic compression ratio is the upper end of what pump gas will tolerate. I've never built an engine with more than about 9.75:1 dynamic (it was a gen 1 SBC and ran fine on pump gas, but it had AFR's on it) so I don't really know what the limit is for pump gas.

Keeping the quench tight helps a lot too. Again, I've been told, that .035 is about the tightest you can run the quench on a stockish connecting rod. But I've never built one tighter than that, so I couldn't tell you exactly how tight you could go without issues.
