When you run your searches on the net, who do you most use? Most use Google for obvious reasons and they have a tool bar that includes its own pop-up stopper and is easily tailored to your preferences. I’ve had the Google tool bar for a year now and love it but exercise caution with the beta version and the “froogle” stuff. Too much sharing of information (i.e. your email address) from those.

Try the Google tool bar for a little while. You can always remove it if it doesn’t fit your needs.

i used to run internet explorer, but the pop ups were terrible, and now i have been using netscape, but some of the webpages doesnt work as good on netscape. like hotmail, on this site. i have trouble inserting smilies on replies, and threads. i click on more and get nothing. and i use yahoo to do all my searching i guess that could be one of my probs?

As for browser - I use Mozilla Firefox - since most spyware is designed to run on IE the Firefox eliminates lots of that. It's a very good browser.

As for pop-up killers This one is the best I've ever used

But eventually you have to pay for it once the trial runs out. I refuse to pay for it so I then downloaded some freebie from download.com - it's pretty shitty but better than nothing.

Yes, your # 1 problem is using nutscrape. Go back to IE and use the Google tool bar to get you started.

Also, I’ve a few free anit-virus programs that will rock your world and virtually eliminate the need for an Ad-Aware program or the like. I have two AD programs that have been rendered useless since installing what I have. And I get no pop ups either.

If you’re using Windows XP, I can take you higher still.

I have been using mozilla, but I just started using IE with the google bar...thanks for the tip!

What are the anti virus programs etc. to take XP higher?

Thanks, Chris

XPers, cookie handling is a big help when it comes to pop ups and IP tracking for SPAM mail.

Entering your control panel, go to “network and internet connections” then “internet options”. In the “privacy” folder click “advanced”. Make sure “override auto cookie handling” box is checked. Now “first party cookies” should be on “accept”, on “third party cookies” mark the box “prompt”. Then make sure “allow session cookies” box is marked.

Now in your internet travels, you will have a prompt pop up when a third party (those SPAMMERS) want to check out your shit and get your email address from your computer. By choosing “no” or whatever, it closes that opened port.

NOTE TO DIAL-UPPERS: Without doing the above, when you visit a site that has pictures and you wait until you can view all those pics, leave and return later, the pics simply reappear without them having to load again. It’s because you’re comp remembers them and has them in your virtual memory. With the third parties cookies set to prompt and you choose to ignore it, those pics will have to re-load each time you visit that site. No a big deal for us broadbanders but for dial-up, it can be an issue.

As for anti-virus protection and a good freebie, nothing beats AVG by Grisoft. It detects Trojans and everything thing else. It catches shit my subscribed McAfee doesn’t. Just look at the left hand column and choose the free AVG.

There is nothing more precious than a good firewall. Fuck XP’s firewall and get ZoneAlarm. Just do the free basic, works like a charm.

I've other stuff and suggestions too. Bamm-Bamm, just run a search from your "start" menu and look for IE. You'll see it there somewhere. A setup file is what you'd be looking for.
