So I have a few external harddrives to store pictures and such. One of them doesn't have a power button, so I can't just turn it on/off. I don't have a problem with that, but it does create another 'problem', more or less that just frustrates the hell out of me.
The problem: whenever I go to do pretty much anything (open recycle bin, log off of Windows, access my computer), for some reason my computer wants to talk to that particular external HD before it does ANYTHING. So when I click "recycle bin" for instance........instead of it opening in a window immediately, it takes 4-5 seconds, after I hear my ext. HD start spinning.
Anyone have a remedy for this? :fail:

Start with power settings and see if the machine is set to spinn them down or power them off. I think you can also look at system restore monitoring. Uncheck the drive and see if it helps. Not sure on either of these. just some things to look at.

Where would I find these?

The "turn off hard disks" is set to 'never'
#2 Right click My Computer then properties them the system restore tab.[/QUOTE]
So basically I am cutting off "system restore" for the external drive mentioned, correct?

Yes, I only have my C: drive listed here so I can't verify for you but I am 99% sure I have done it before.

Sorry I don't have an answer for you now. Try support website for the manufacturer. It could be an option in a driver update if drivers are needed. Maybe a firmware update on the drive. Device options in device manager? Best I can come up with now.

D - Windows must communicate with ALL storage devices prior to "opening" explorer or recycle bin.
My recommendation: Don't be a cheap fuck and purchase a faster external HD.
