NICE. much better than anything I've ever done. I haven't drawn since early high-school and those were usually side-views of cars (although I did make one badass CART-car (at the time it was still IndyCar) schematic from the side, based off the Reynard and Lola chassis with my own little "tweaks," back in 8th grade haha). I could never get good enough to make realistic pictures, just nerd tech drawings :D

it's mainly a precise pen to do the underlay, which is basically rough sketches and then i came back with a prismacolor marker

but pastels are where it's at, but they take a lil more time.

I use pastels some.
I started drawing with pencil all the way through high school, I took one art class in high school which i used color pencils in for like the first time, once i got to state i started using pen, and marker, and then later pastel. But, using pen makes you alot better, you make mistakes but you learn how to correct them with the pen, and then you come back with the marker and it really brings it off the page.

after seeing some of these pics, I retract the "badass" assessment of my IndyCar schematic and reduce it's status to... I dunno, "mildelbow" or something :idunno:

Yea i really like the look of that bike you did, the kind of roughness to it but very nice colors on it. I dont mean to keep with the questions, but what kind of pen, anything special? I know prismacolor is some high end stuff with the colored pencils i've seen.

this is a project that i worked on last semester, it's all pen and marker though, i'm at the studio right now, when i go home i'll try to find a pastel rendering to post

as far as pens you can use a 25 cent ball point pen and just get used to making mistakes and correcting them as you go. like with the bike pics you can see where i overshoot alot of things but it sort of adds to the image once i come back with the marker and tighten it up a lil bit. Another good pen are the Precise brand, they don't bleed in the markers but the ball points usually do and sometimes that's a good thing because it adds to the roughness.

Holy crap, that's unreal. You in the graphic design program? I'm currently trying to get into the same program at App.

another thing i do is start with like a 30 percent grey prismacolor marker and then come back with a pen and tighten it up later.

Using the grey to make lines? or fill in? Wish i was in Ral. so i could understand what your talking about better.

Big Country
05-05-2004, 11:08 PM
just to get a feel of where i may put the lines later on it's just for reference i geuss you could say. you can see it alot in the pager device on the baby monitor how i do like elipses to show how the pager will open and where the top of the screen would be located when it's opened. and then i came back and filled it in as if it were open

Yea, i see it now, it's going to take alot of practice, lol. I've wanted to do some color stuff but my classes are all drawing ones. btw, if it wasn't obvious, thats really good work:)

thanks man, practice makes perfect, you have to treat it like a mustang and just draw like you drive and get buck wild wit it. I'm still not where i want to be, but I start an internship designing powertools for Ryobi in Anderson, SC in like two weeks so hopefully when i get back in August, I can show you some more tricks, but stick with it man. if you don't use it you lose it, so keep at it, another thing you may want to do is just look up different techniques used by famous artists and do copies of their work and then incorporate it into a work of your own, you'll learn alot that way. But let me get back to designing this power sander man take care and I'll try to post a pastel work sometime soon for you. Take care.

bigcountry that stuff is incredible. i wish i'd pursued my drawing talents more, i used to do a lot of portrait sketching in high school. btw, a little off topic, i've seen your car around campus and i must say it's the only one i've seen with a body kit on it that i liked. beautiful car.

You have definitely got talent, Big Country! I never got that far in my art classes before I changed my major :( (but I can do Caligraphy like a mo'fo, and know more about art and architectural history than your average person haha) Mike, that's a badass pic too! Shading always pisses me off ;) And Dan...I hate you. Oh wait, you're not Andy, I take that comment back :flip:

Big Country deffinately has some skilzz! I would be working at advance with him and turn around and see this hott ass bike sketched out on the counter. It would either be a bike, car, neked woman etc.

You deffinately have a future in design cuz!

I drew a Trans AM in Autocad 2000 one time. In isometric view. it was pretty good, i don't know what happened to it though.

Come over to Brooks sometime next semester I'm usually hiding in the basement somewhere. Do you know Jason with the 91 or so maroonish camaro with the silver racing stripes?

here are some i did with a wacom tablet, same as drawing but with a pen on a tablet that shows up on a computer. BTW prismacolor markers and pencils kick ass but they are quite expensive.
