Ive decided that I want to look into getting a carport built to store the SS in while Im gone.

Heres the general idea of what I want:

-Single carport (possibly oversized to have space to work on the car if possible???)
-Concrete or asphalt slab (which would be cheaper?
-The ability to enclose the carport later on when my finances can recoup from the inital purchase.

I'd like to purchase it in a kit and assemble it myself to cut down on the cost.

If concrete is the way to go, I dont have much expeirence in concrete pouring, so for those of you that do is this something I could myself and get a truck to come pour it for me (Im guessing this job would be too big for something like quick crete) or just hire someone to complete the entire job?

All in all, what am I looking at spending to get some sort of foundation poured and the carport with me doing as much of the labor as possible?

Thanks!

Well, as far as the concrete is concerned, you would have to level a piece of land and make the form. This would involve a little landscaping and a wood structure (2x4's) to make the form.

As far as a carport, I think you can get those free-standing jobs for about 600 bucks - all aluminum I think. You could close that in at a later date with some light gauge steel or aluminum panels - and possibly a roll up door at one end.

You probably need to start looking at the freestanding carport thing first- get a measurement and see how much concrete you'll need. That could quite possibly determine what path you should follow after that. Keep in mind the concrete would need to be at least 4 inches thick - assuming standard concrete and not fiber re-inforced. Either way, you need to call and get an estimate on the size pad you want poured, and let them know that you would like a quote with them doing the form and you building a form. You also might want to look into getting a light gauge steel contractor (that builds garages, etc) to give you a quote on like a 24x15 or 20 building - turnkey. There is a definite chance that you could get that financed for next to nothing. All this is assuming that you do not have restrictive covenants in your neighborhood. Good luck -and I hope this helps. :)
