how in the hell do you get lawn mower blades off??? I have a honda harmony, self propeled mower and want to sharpen the blades, and i can't get them off :fail: are the bolts holding them on reversed thread or something? I tried going both ways with them and couldn't get them to budge. I was thinking if i had an air gun they probably come off, i tried my craftsmans 19.2v impact gun but that didn't work either  anyone have suggestions?

I had to use an impact wrench on my mower to get the blade nuts off.

You need some tools and/or air power, stop by. I can't help with it, but you're welcome to use whatever I've got here.

i have tools, just no air tools, I had a 1/2" rachet on the bolt, had my foot on the mower blade to keep it from moving and pushing down with all my weight on the rachet and the damn thing still didn't come loose  i don't think they've ever been taken off in 10 years or something  i'll try again tonight but this time i'll block off the blades with a 2x4 and hit the rachet with a hammer

I've got a 4' long 1" drive ratchet. Might save you some straining ;)

I tried and tried manually, until I used a 2x4 and an impact wrench my nuts would not move.

I think it is the impact action that is important.

The blades tighten the nuts as they spin.

PB blaster might help too.

It's hell on those pesky door panel trim screws! :)

Along with a pinion flange clamp, it's the cat's ass for crushing sleeves while doing gear swaps. I think it retailed for ~4-500 w/ adapters off the tool truck, I swapped labor for a turd gen gear swap.

If you can't get it off, Northern Tool sells a grinding wheel that you chuck into a drill so you can sharpen the blades on the mower. The abrasives are in a "V" to give a sharp edge. I bought one last year, works pretty good.

I got them off, blocked the blades off with a 2x4 and had to pretty much bounce on the rachet with all my wieght to break them loose. my grass isn't going to know what the hell hit it

When I had to take three off of our mower at first I tried the half inch IR impact gun with a 1/4inch air line. then I said f*ck it and hit it with the 3/4 inch and they were off in a split second. Impact is what does it.
