I think it can make it myself.
Congrats on the new biz also man, hadnt gotten around to tell ya that.
For the rest(few?) that dont know dusty, he is a very standup guy who's attention to detail is crazy. I think he should have been born a supra owner myself....
Goodluck with it man, Im sure you will get a lot of happy customers!

Ha! I think you might shell the rear before it runs 11's. I guess you could put two stages of nitrous on it......a 50 shot from the bottom bulb and another 100 from second gear on....
Good luck with it!

We'll find out soon! We're gonna be making a trip to the track here pretty soon to get a baseline. My guess is high 9's (in the 1/8th obviously)

11's shouldn't be a problem. Didn't Mark's Z run 7.90's or 80's with some bolt on's and a 125 shot?

I would imagine its was more than that... it might have been jetted for a 125 .. but higher bottle pressure.. huge amounts of timing... .. it all adds up.. ;)
But him and Chris lined up that night... it was a good race to watch... both cars launched like a mofo... and Mark's car was MOV"n on out....
Good luck Dusty on the "TPT" project.... I dont think it will be a problem getting into the 11's

With 150 K plus miles and a few bolt-ons. If you saw the car you would be shocked. Car ran great for what it is. Still running by the way.

UPDATE:
Last Wed we took project TPT to Roxboro Motorsports Park to get some baseline runs before we start the modding. Keep in mind, this car has started the odometer over for the SECOND time with 200,000 + miles on it, has a beastly 3.23 gear, and is otherwise BONE STOCK
Needless to say, we were actually quite surprised at the results.
First run on Dry-Rotted street tires netted a humble 9.69 at 71.8 MPH.
http://www.horsepowerjunkies.com/gallery/data/500/234TPT_run_1.jpg
After this run, We advanced the initial timing from what was for some reason about -5 degrees :ohnoes: To 10 degrees advanced. Stock timing is 6 degrees. This brought the torque back, catapulting us to a 11.2 with a mind blowing 2.9 60 foot time. The bricks on the back couldn't take it.We then bolted up the ET Streets, and made another attempt. This time We were able to squeeze out a 9.47 at 74.29!! Over 2 tenths and almost 3 MPH.
http://www.horsepowerjunkies.com/gallery/data/500/234TPT_run_2.jpg
For the third and final pass of the night, we bolted on a 52 MM throttle body. This mod was not near as effective as it could have been, because the opening in the plenum is not 52 MM. Either way, we got a best for the night of 9.38 at 74.1 MPH.
http://www.horsepowerjunkies.com/gallery/data/500/234TPT_run_3.jpg
We wanted to bump the timing up a little more, but ran out of time. We found out later by datalogging that the car was actually pulling about 5 degrees of timing because we had to cut the smog pump belt due to bearing failure.. Apparently, the car adds 100mv to the O2 circuit when it fires the diverter valve for the air pump to compensate the O2 sensor for the extra fresh air passing through the exhaust. ShrtBus is currently taking care of that for us by burning us a chip with the AIR system removed.
Keep in mind, Stock 1/4 mile times for the 1987 IROC is 15.3.. We've already cleared that mark
Next mods are already under way. Long tube Headers, true Duals, Siamesed plenum, Siamesed Runners, and some initial mild weight reduction. We'd like to see some 8.8's next time!! Stay tuned!!

Na...I have been running low 11's on my 10bolt as well for 2yrs .... automagics help in that category... now if the car was a 5 speed.... whole new ball game.

Good times Dusty. Glad to see the ol beater do'n decent. Should have that chip for ya this week, btw.
just for reference..the best I could get w/ my car "completely stock" was a 14.8 in the 1/4 ...
Looks like the mod's are coming around nicely!!!!!!

The McElheney Homes sponsored "Project TPT" Will be back at Roxboro Dragway Today (Wed) to see what the Long tubes, Duals, weight reduction, And MAYBE a ported TPI setup will do for us.

UPDATE!!!
Back to the Track yesterday, This time with some mild weight reduction, Long tube headers, and an old custom true dual exhaust system that NufNuff used to run back in the day. We had planned on putting the siamesed runners and ported plenum on, but time kicked our butts on that one.
Keep in mind, the air temp was about 15 degrees hotter than it was last time, and the humidity was significantly higher. Towards the end of the night, It seems as though the posi unit wasn't too happy, as it would unlock in the burnout, and off the line, it wanted to kick the rear end off to one side.
First run right off the trailer netted an 8.99 at 78.1 MPH!!! That's already almost 4 tenths AND 4 MPH better than the BEST run last time!! We stayed with the stock programming and 10 degrees initial timing just like the best run last time.
http://www.horsepowerjunkies.com/gallery/data/500/234slip1.jpg
Just to rule out a fluke, we Hot-Lapped it to The Night's best of a 8.95 @ 78.1 MPH!! (check out the consistent MPH vs last run.. IDENTICAL! )
http://www.horsepowerjunkies.com/gallery/data/500/234slip2.jpg
We decided to try the timing at 12 degrees initial, but it definitely didn't like that, giving us a 9.05 @ 76.8 MPH.
http://www.horsepowerjunkies.com/gallery/data/500/234slip3.jpg
We went back to 10 degrees and got our MPH back, but heat soak had set in, and we ended the night with a 9.01 @ 77.8 MPH
http://www.horsepowerjunkies.com/gallery/data/500/234slip4.jpg
Next time we plan to have some programming in the car. Hopefully that'll keep it from pulling timing like it's doing, and give us a little more ET. We will also have siamesed runners, and a ported plenum on the car, and a little more weight reduction. (Probably have some welded up spider gears in the rear end too!) If all goes well, we MAY even be ready for the first round of spray next Wed. I'm already pretty impressed for a 200,000 mile car!!

Very cool project, I have been enjoying the updates.
(Probably have some welded up spider gears in the rear end too!)
Just wanted to comment on this. I had a friend do this for his demolition derby car. After the gears were welded up it smoked two rear ends. Both used rear ends with spider gears welded. I dont know if it was the heat from welding or possibly slag contaminatin but the spider gears would shatter....might have been doing something wrong. Just food for thought, Good luck!:)

Cool project. Don't LT-1 cams pick those up a little too or was that just the 89's with the peanut cam? Love how you are using stock siamesed runners and plenum, its so easy to go with a stealth ram.
screamin' 85 z

I'm sure any cam is better than what came in these things, but the rules are 'bolt on's only! :( lol And yeah, Chris really wants to see how far we can go on a stock style TPI

Ported Siamesed Plenum, Siamese runners, and 52mm Throttle Body is on, as well as a little programming from Shrt Bus. Throttle response is noticeably snappier. We'll Probably be back at Roxboro On Wed!

This is fun to read. Reminds me of going to the track all the time when everyone's car was close to stock (like maybe 6 years ago) and trying to see what minor mods eaked out.
Keep it up fellas...
I think a friend of mine had one of those cars back in the late '90s and it ran 9.2ish, IIRC.

A budget build is exactly what we are doing with this. With small mods and documenting as we go we are finding out what works and doesn't!
